Guinness. They're talking about two of next year's games being in consecutive weeks which I guess is the next stage in working out whether there could be a sustainable fan base here. But I agree if it was a poor team in a poor division I doubt 80,000+ would turn up for all eight games.

Re: London NFL Team
London would easily sustain an NFL team. 8 games is nothing with 500,000 applying for each game. You have to remember that a London team would be a European franchise and would attract demand from across the continent.

The only barrier to a London team is the distance to the West Coast. That's it.

Re: London NFL Team
As Norflondon mentioned, I just don't think the 2 Daves have the liquid cash.

A London NFL team would cost well above $1 billion. (Sharad Khan, who owns the Jaguars and Fullham paid $760mm for a small market team)

Under NFL rules, any owners can arrange a syndicate or funding to buy a team, but 30% of the funds and control have to come from one person.

So in this case, it would mean either Gold or Sullivan shelling out at a minimum $300mm (assuming a $1bln price tag) or about 185mm gbp

Just don't think they are that liquid, although Gold could probably do it in terms of pledging his assets against a loan. But at their age, don't think it's worth it.

NFL teams are a great investment. Essentially for doing nothing you would make $14 mm a year, as the league splits all tv revenue and pools 70% of all merchandise sales globally and then distributes it. (Dallas is trying to reduce the percentage to 63%)

Haha, the Packers - bought for $50, must be the best value for ANY franchise?

Fans are a different story.

Your ideal fanbase might collectively opt to remain loyal to their current teams too much.

Another issue is the NFL has to be smart about start times and let them play home games earlier than 6pm British time. That will eat into the pregame shows since everyone will watch the game at 3 UK time or 10am Eastern. NFL might not make the right choice there.

I might some high up NFL exec who told me all this stuff about this time last year. He was the person in a suit John Harbaugh flipped out on in the Super Bowl after that light delay.

I was exaggerating, just know they aren't that popular and that's never helped by being shit.

And that Chivas team we mentioned the other day has gone under I see.

Grumps saw the real Chivas draw 2-2 with Necaxa in the Azteca, none of that Chivas USA nonsense.

Anyway..... surely it would fuck the OS pitch up!?

Re: London NFL Team
there was talk last week of arranging the schedule so teams would play on the east coast before/after London to ease the travelling. they would also have a US home and a UK home.

i think it would be great for a couple of years, but the team would have to be half decent to keep the interest.
London Jags???

Re: London NFL Team
The biggest barrier will be the fan base. Every single NFL fan in the UK already supports a team. Will they suddenly start supporting the new London side? I certainly won't.

Gavros 4:40 Wed Oct 29
Re: London NFL Team
1. Wembley can only host 28 non-England events per year so a permanent home there for NFL isnt feasible.

2. Spurs are altering their stadium design to fit NFL. Good luck to them, I say. The NFL is notorious for putting fuck all into their local communities, which they consider to be expendable anyway based upon business interest as they are simply a franchise.

3. They also are very good at squeezing money out of the public sector (Osbourne has already hinted at tax breaks for them).

4. They'd fuck up the pitch

5. Anyone who likes NFL is a bit of a bender.

LA will get one before London so could be quite a wait anywya

I still like NFL. That was just for the benefit of Gavros and his boner for boats.

Re: London NFL Team
I think LA have baulked at getting another teams sloppy seconds and want an expansion team rather than a franchise move.

32 teams in the NFL is a nice round number and i don't think they will upset that apple cart by adding 1 more.

Re: London NFL Team
That's ok then.

I didn't want to think our games over Culver meant nothing to you.

:(

Re: London NFL Team
Funnily enough i was thinking about Culver the other day. It was also our own private golf course too.
